E-trafficking will reduce 80 percent road accidents: Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity
Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samiti (Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association) has demanded to launch e-trafficking prosecution system using CC cameras on National Safe Road Day on Saturday. At the same time, if the e-trafficking system is introduced, the organization believes that road accidents will reduce by 80 percent.
Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, secretary general of the organization made 5 more proposals in addition to the launch of e-trafficking in the press conference held in the morning at the Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unit on "Demand for compensation to all citizens injured in road accidents according to road laws and rules".
Arguing in favor of the demand, he said that if road accident cases are registered with special importance, investigated under special surveillance, investigations completed at the earliest, justice is completed quickly, then, the rule of law will be implemented in this sector. In many cases, the vehicle cannot be identified when long-haul passengers are killed or seriously injured in road accidents. Therefore, if a traffic network is established across the country through the system of CC cameras, it will be easier to identify the accused in each case. Every traffic law violation incident can be taken into account. Then the tendency of people to break the law will be reduced. Through this it is possible to bring order back to the road. On the other hand, if the e-trafficking prosecution system is started by linking the bank account of each car owner in the case of traffic law, and the method of collecting auto fines from the bank account is started along with the case, every driver of this country will be forced to behave responsibly like the cantonment area of Bangladesh or the roads and highways of the developed world. Specifying driver salary and working hours. It is important to distinguish between mechanized and non-mechanized vehicles. Although there is a promise of safe roads in the current government's election manifesto, there is no progress in road safety. He thinks that if the e-trafficking system is introduced, road accidents will reduce by 80 percent.
He also said that working people of the country are dying in road accidents the most. It affects the national economy of the country. Socio-economic loss to the persons killed and injured in the accident and their dependents.
BUET's ARI calculations say that the loss in road accidents in the last three years is about 1 lakh 9 thousand crore taka. If the number of working people is more than dependent people, then it is called population bonus or demographic dividend. Bangladesh boasts of a demographic dividend. Road accidents are hitting this place of pride more. Analyzing the police database, ARI says that 54 percent of the people killed in road-highway accidents in the country in the last decade are between the ages of 16 and 40. And 18.5 percent of those killed in accidents are children. Their age is below 15 years. According to the calculations of the Passenger Welfare Association, 51 percent of the victims were only disabled persons.
Vice-President of the organization Tawhidul Haque Liton, Publicity Secretary Mahmudul Hasan Russell, Central Leader Md. Mohsin, Manjur Alam Master, Abu Taleb and others were also present in the press conference. Rahila Anjum Khushab, Ayesha Khatun, Panna Akhtar and others spoke on behalf of the road accident victim's family.
Despite the election promises of the government, there is no visible action on road safety. In view of our long-standing demand, Road Safety Unit has been formed in BRTA and Ministry of Road Transport, but basically they do not have any research program to prevent road accidents except talking on TV media. Although the Ministry of Road Transport has allocated various units and a budget of 30 to 35 thousand crore taka every year, there is no budget to protect the country and the people of the country from the epidemic of road accidents. There is no researcher, no budget allocation for road accident prevention in this ministry. As a result, road accidents and fatalities are increasing every year.
According to the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association, about 8,000 people die in road accidents every year. The government's health department says that 64 people die on the roads every day. According to this data, 23,360 people die in road accidents in Bangladesh every year. About three and a half lakh people are getting injured. Every year about 80 thousand people are being disabled in road accidents. More than 12,000 of them are children under 17 years of age. According to this, an average of 220 people are disabled every day only in road accidents. On the other hand, the World Health Organization says that 1.3 million people die in road accidents every year across the world. 24,954 people died in Bangladesh. According to the agency, 67 percent of the victims were between the ages of 15 and 64. In this case, people aged 15 to 49 years are most at risk of death. The organization claims that the GDP loss due to road accidents in Bangladesh is 5.3 percent.
